Be Kind to Animals Celebration

Be Kind to Animals Week is the first week in May. It was started in 1915 by the American Humane Association and serves as a reminder of the important role animals play in everyone's lives.

Every year, the Ozaukee Humane Society sponsors a poster, poetry and photography contest in which local children illustrate ways to be kind to animals. Check out the winning entries from this year!

Share the world with me and you
But don’t forget a dog or two.

We are not the only ones so
Don’t only share it with your sons.

Share the world with me and you
But don’t forget a cat or two.

We are called to love each other so
Love all animals like they’re your brother.

Share the world with me and you
But don’t forget a fish or two.

To people we are nice and kind
So keep all animals in your mind.

Share the world with me and you
But don’t forget a bird or two.

Befriend all God’s lovely creatures
And look at all their beautiful features.

We are called to share the world with all!

Share the World

Share the world,
With animals, all kinds.
Share the world,
With creatures big and small.
Share the world,
With the dullest black bird to the most fiery red parrot, with them all.
Share the world,
With rabbits hopping, legs outstretched,
With brown dogs barking, tails wagging furiously,
With white mice squealing, running in circles,
With gray cats meowing, rolling around on sweet green grass.
With yellow birds, singing their song cheerfully,
Share the World.
Share the world with all of them, no matter their type.
Take them for walks.
Or go to a park.
Take a swim,
Or play with them.
Share the world with all of them.
Silky black puppies, sound asleep,
Snuggling striped kittens, close together,
Chirping birds, at an overflowing feeder, singing,
“Everyone! Share the world!”

Sharing the World
Becca Siverhus

I heard of an animal that lives far far away,
That I would really like to meet someday.

The animal I speak of is called the Telly,
and lives in the far off land called Makelly.

They live on the tops of a tree called a yelly,
they have four spots on their back and five on their belly.

Workers cut down the trees called the yellys,
to harvest their sap to make yelly tree jelly.

So the creature called the Telly is losing its home,
They have no place to live and no place to roam.

If we do not help the Tellys quick, I’m afraid they will get very sick!

We must do something now, and lend a helping hand.
We have to save the Telly’s world, we have to save their land.

Let’s learn to share the world, we have to learn to play, because
I would really like to meet a Telly some day.
