Ozaukee Humane Society to host FREE
“Read to Rover” program
at Saukville’s Oscar Grady Library
GRAFTON, Wis. – Looking to help improve your child’s reading and comprehension skills? Read to Rover is a literacy mentoring program designed to help your child build confidence through a unique and powerful method: reading aloud to a registered therapy dog.
The dog’s role as tutor creates a supportive, non-judgmental environment to help reduce stress associated with reading. It also encourages positive social behaviors, fosters feelings of acceptance and achievement, and inspires children to develop an interest and love of reading, all while having fun!
Dog and handler teams are registered through a leading animal therapy organization to prepare them for activities in health care, school and library settings. Each dog undergoes a rigorous temperament and skills evaluation to ensure their appropriateness as a therapy animal.
OHS invites you to sign up your child for a 25-minute reading session once a week for four weeks. All sessions are held at the Oscar Grady Library, 151 S. Main Street, Saukville, WI 53080 on the following dates:
Wednesdays, 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. March 10, 17, 24 and 31
Saturdays, 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. March 6, 13, 20 and 27
Attendance is required at all four sessions. Upon completion, your child will receive a certificate and small gift from the Ozaukee Humane Society and sponsoring library. To register your child, please contact Cindy Franke, Children’s Librarian, at 262-284-6022. Space is limited. There is no fee for the program. We hope you will take advantage of this unique opportunity!
