Dog Stolen from Downtown Grafton
Grafton, Wis. – A giant fiberglass dog sculpture was stolen this weekend from downtown Grafton. Painted by artists Joel and Erika Deutmeyer and sponsored by LaBudde Group, the Labrador Retriever was part of a public art project hosted by the Village of Grafton and the Ozaukee Humane Society.
Both groups are asking for the return of the dog, who was to be auctioned off at a charity event this fall for the humane society.
“We were really disheartened to hear about the theft,” said Beth Maresh, director of program services. “The proceeds from the auction would have directly impacted our ability to save more lives at the humane society. By stealing this dog, someone has hurt real animals, as well.”
Darrell Hofland, Grafton’s Village Administrator agrees, and both organizations are calling for a return of the dog. “We hope whoever stole the dog regrets their act, and returns the dog promptly to the downtown area.”
ART BARK: Dogs on Parade is the first public art project in Grafton, and the proceeds benefit the animals at the shelter. For more information, visit QualityLifeGrafton.com or ozaukeehumane.org.
