From
Homeless to Hopeful
GRAFTON,
Wis. – Some moms prepare for a baby shower
and lots of lovely gifts for their new arrivals.
One-year-old Maxine was expecting to give
birth to kittens at any moment. While the
impending birth of adorable little kittens would
typically be cause for celebration, this wasn't
the case for Maxine because she had no support system
in place to help get her babies everything they
need; not until now that is.
As
soon as Maxine found herself at to the Ozaukee Humane
Society things changed for the better. OHS
staff welcomed Maxine with open arms. Just
one day after Maxine's arrival, she gave birth to
four kittens at OHS. Thanks to OHS, all of
these felines have a safe, warm place to reside
until they find their forever families.
The
newly named Misty, Minnie, Parker and Patch are
cuddling and love being comforted. Soon after
their birth, these 6-day-old kittens were immediately
evaluated by an OHS veterinarian. OHS staff
will do everything possible to ensure Maxine and
her kittens survive.
Companion
animals like Maxine are reasons why the Ozaukee
Humane Society staff stress the importance of keeping
your cat indoors. Even cats in “safe” suburban
neighborhoods can become lost and never find their
way home. While outdoor cats have a much shorter
life span than those who live indoors, OHS staff
is hopeful Maxine and her kittens will thrive despite
Maxine living on the streets.
The
Ozaukee Humane Society would also like to remind
the community to spay or neuter your cat.
This surgery helps reduce overpopulation and thus,
prevents animal suffering. OHS offers a Spay
Neuter Assistance Program (SNAP) for those who understand
the benefits of spaying or neutering their cat but
cannot afford to do so.
For
more information about Maxine and her kittens, or
