On Saturday, March 27, 2010, Village of Saukville President Barbara Dickmann welcomed humane society staff and board members, lead donors, project architects and other members of the community to the groundbreaking ceremony for the Victoria Wellens Center.

Board President Tony Enea led a toast to the former Executive Director of the Wisconsin Humane Society, Victoria Wellens, who passed away one year ago.

Anne Reed, who is the new Executive Director of the Wisconsin & Ozaukee Humane Societies, acknowledged the generosity of lead donors, including John & Elizabeth Feith, Laura & Mike Arnow from the Antonia Foundation; Mike Jones from MillerCoors; Jack & Patti McKeithan; Lynn S. Nicholas; Scott & Kathryn Happ; Steigleder Charitable Trust; Elaine Marshall; Kathleen D. Ryan; Tony Enea; Mr. & Mrs. Charles James; Paul & Patricia Ellsworth; and Mark & Bridget Kirkish.

Then came the big dig! The adoptable dogs helped in their adorable construction hats and posed for WTMJ4, the Ozaukee Press and the News Graphic. Thanks, everyone! To learn more about the new Ozaukee Humane Society Victoria Wellens Center, or to donate to the shelter, click here!
