Homeless Dog to Join Milwaukee Police Department

Chocolate Lab Being Trained for Drug Interdiction Unit

GRAFTON, Wis. – Kenobi, a four-year-old Chocolate Lab, left the Ozaukee Humane Society, a community-based animal welfare organization providing a temporary home to nearly 2,000 stray and injured animals each year, for a new home. What makes Kenobi so unique is that not only is he going to have a new home, he is also going to have a new job. Kenobi is currently being training by and will work with Detective Glen Bishop as part of the Milwaukee Police Department's Drug Interdiction Unit.

When Wisconsin Humane Society Dog Evaluator Natalie Zielinski first met Kenobi, she knew he needed a task. “Kenobi is extremely well behaved, obedient and calm. The moment he sees a tennis ball, his eyes light up and he will spend hours retrieving the ball. Kenobi is an ideal candidate for what law enforcement departments are seeking.”

In addition to training Kenobi to work in the Milwaukee Drug Interdiction Unit, Detective Bishop also adopted the chocolate lab. So far Kenobi's training is going well and he is responding with a lot of enthusiasm.
