Anne Reed Named Executive Director of Wisconsin & Ozaukee Humane Societies

Grafton, WI – The Wisconsin & Ozaukee Humane Societies are pleased to announce they have selected Anne Reed as their new executive director. Reed, a lawyer at Reinhart Boerner Van Deuren SC, will begin her duties as executive director on January 11, 2010.

The Wisconsin Humane Society (WHS) is the largest animal welfare organization in the state and is nationally recognized for its leadership in the animal welfare field. The Ozaukee Humane Society merged with the Wisconsin Humane Society in 2004 and is a division of WHS.

Reed succeeds Victoria Wellens, who served in the position for 15 years, and Ellen Clark, who has served as interim executive director since Wellens’ passing in March 2009. Clark has been appointed deputy director at the shelter.

“After an extensive search, and with unanimous consent, we have chosen Anne Reed to fill this key position with the shelter,” said Tony Enea, WHS board president. “Anne’s leadership ability, progressive vision and accomplishments in the non-profit sector will be great assets in ensuring the continued success of the Wisconsin and Ozaukee Humane Societies.”

Reed is a current board member of Meta House, Inc., a substance abuse treatment center in Milwaukee serving women and their children, where she also served as board president. Reed has also served on the board of Legal Action of Wisconsin, Inc. For the last 28 years, she has been a member of the litigation practice group at Reinhart Boerner, a firm of over 200 lawyers serving the legal needs of business clients. She obtained her A.B at Northwestern University and her J.D. at Cornell Law School.

Reed lives in Milwaukee with her husband, daughter, three cats and new puppy.
